Drivers In These States Pay Up To $125 More Monthly For Car Insurance—Here’s How To Save

Drivers are paying less at the pump again, with the national average price per gallon dropping below $4, according to AAA. But a recent report suggests they may still be overpaying for another driving expense: car insurance.

The median monthly bill cost nationwide is $110, according to an analysis of bill payments by Doxo, a fintech company. Drivers in higher-cost states, like New Hampshire, have a median cost of up to $235— $125 more than the national median, or about $1,500 per year.

If you live in a state or city where drivers pay more for car insurance, comparing car insurance companies and searching for discounts can potentially lower your monthly costs.

Where is Car Insurance More Expensive?

Depending on your state and city, your monthly median cost for car insurance can be much higher than the national amount, according to Doxo’s report.

Best Car Insurance Companies

If you’re in a higher-cost state or city or just want to save more every month on your car insurance, comparing car insurance companies is an easy and effective way to do that.

Shopping around and comparing quotes from different companies can help you lower your car insurance bill significantly, even if you’re looking at the same coverage options.

Besides looking at different companies, some other ways you can save on car insurance include:

  • Bundling with another policy, like home and life insurance
  • Qualifying for discounts for driving safe, having a newer car or insuring more than one vehicle
  • Paying your premium in full
  • Opting for a higher deductible

Bottom Line

A recent report from Doxo found where in the U.S. some drivers are paying the most for their monthly car insurance bills—and drivers in states like New Hampshire are paying around $125 above the national median. If you’re looking to cut down on this costly bill each month, consider getting quotes from different car insurance companies to see if you qualify for lower premiums.
