U.S. Utilities Market Size and Household Spending Report 2022
doxo has just released its report on the U.S. Utilities Market Size and Household Spending for 2022. The report provides an analysis of the $399 billion spent annually on utility bills in the country.
It reveals that the average utility bill for U.S. residents is $328 per month, which amounts to expenses of $3,936 per year for the 78% of American households that pay a utility bill.
When considering all households in the nation, the average yearly expense comes to $3,070.
The report also provides a breakdown of the U.S. household spending market size, and average monthly costs by state and city.
To size the market, an analysis of actual household payments toward utility bills was conducted, using anonymized data from doxo’s 8 million customers who have paid bills across more than 97% of U.S. zip codes.
Utilities costs have risen over the past year due to inflation, and will continue to rise throughout the winter months
As energy prices continue to rise, inflation is also increasing across the country. The U.S. Energy Information Administration predicts that power prices will rise across all regions during the winter season due to colder weather.
Correspondingly, doxo’s data shows that utility bill payments have increased by 7% in the third quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.
Electric and gas bills have increased by 10% each, waste and recycling bills have increased by 7%, and water and sewage bills have increased by 1%.
These figures indicate that Americans will likely face higher bills this winter.
